How to hire the right Realtors for your home or investment purchase

Here are five basic things you need to ask any Realtor you are considering to hire:

  1. Are you a full-time Realtor?
  2. When was your last completed transaction?
  3. How long have you been licensed?
  4. Are you a member of the MLS?
  5. Do you have a reference I can speak to?

These are the most important things you need to ask while interviewing a Realtor. And please, do interview Realtors! It may seem like a waste of time, but it’s extremely important you get to know the agent you are considering before you hire them.

Besides the experience and ability of an agent, the most important consideration you need to take is how well you get a long with the agent. Ask yourself: Is this someone I can trust has my best interests in mind? Do I like the pace at which this agent moves? Is he or she too pushy, too shy, or generally uninterested in our conversations?

Beware of agents that you don’t “mesh” well with. If you’re not meshing well, you’re not listening to each other. The give and take between a home buyer and their agent is extremely important – as a home buyer, you need to be communicating clearly and specifically what your goals and expectations are, and the agent needs to be able to target and deliver on those goals.
